I was invited to speak about EDGA (European Disabled Golf Association ) at the Portugal Masters European Tour event held at the Victoria course in Vilamoura.
It was a challenging talk and very emotional as it was about a cause close to my heart, Golf for the disabled. I spoke of how golf had changed my direction and mindset since losing my leg. The reaction from the audience was beyond my expectations and very kind words were gratefully excepted afterwards.
The next few days were spent making a short film of my story by the European Tour which was published on their website that week.
I was lucky enough to spend some time with the top players on the putting green and driving range. Seeing these guys up close really is something else.
At the end of a very busy but exciting week we were asked to do a demonstration match with 4 pros in front of the full grandstands of the 18th hole. I’ve never been so nervous hitting a golf shot but loved every minute of it. We managed to raise a huge amount of money for EDGA and it was an experience I’ll never forget.
Villamoura is a beautiful place and if you ever get a chance to go, make sure you do.
